Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces
A comeback Medvedev secured his first title for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.
The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a difficult period, managing just one match at the big events and suffering a setback at the American major.
His varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in particular - led to him falling of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.
Currently working with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.
This marks his first title following the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt from March of 2023.
Victory also indicates the Russian has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct competitions.
"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my two daughters together, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 the champion.
"This victory is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six finals, featuring in Halle previously this season.
Medvedev's defensive approach and recurring outbursts on court had led commentators to doubt if his skill to play at the highest level was finished.
But the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.
Medvedev came back from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, winning four of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.
The competitors traded breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to force a decider.
The opponent rescued four early-game opportunities in a tight third set before the champion won the break to that score to serve for the match.
Appropriately, he earned victory with a rally at the net area, with Moutet failing to handle a return after a lengthy match.
